With
the world watching the 2010 Olympic/Paralympic Games in Vancouver/Whistler,
British Columbia, Canada we are asking artists to express what it means to be
Canadian. While more clichéd symbols and objects – i.e. the maple
leaf and hockey stick – may offer creative angles, we are asking you to
look deeper and present wearable art that truly represents the spirit of Canada
to international guests in town for the Olympics. International artists are
welcome to enter work for this category as well. This is a conceptual category:
entries to the Canadian Spirit Category can be made from any type of medium
and can be a complete outfit, headdress, or brassiere to name a few.

Recycled newspaper
Dream Catcher is a creative transformation inspired by unique historical
stories in Canadian native mythology. From the loop in the centre of the
headpiece are the good dreams concentrate to the centre and the bad dreams
are getting lost through the long woven patterns. The object is purposely
arranged from different type of world newspaper in different world languages
to visually support the diverse dreams of multicultural Canadian society.
Hand made with classic textile techniques from 100% recycled newspaper
the Dream Catcher represent my vision of the history and future of Canadian
Spirit.

Recycled twine, acorn tops, oak hydrangea flowers, marbles, beads,
sealant
The birch tree and hydrangea bush in my garden are a saturation of dark
reds, oranges. The acorn tops were a perfect medium, along with the water
droplets. My inspiration comes from Escher some of the quiet places that
I retreat to for solace: water scenes, lakes, beaches, marshes and movement,
shown in water droplets.
